Hi! I’m Nechama and I'd like to welcome you to this site!
Let me share with you a little about me and my life.
I’ve always lived a Chassidic Jewish lifestyle. Together with my husband, we raise our children in the same way. I try to teach my children to always make the right choice in life and to make the Creator of the world proud of their actions. There's always room for improvement!
Holistically, I was raised to value healthy food and not run after quick medicine fixes and fast food. In this area, too, there's room to get better. I’ve had my ups and downs, my years of four bowls of cereal a day, my days of way too much chocolate, and times of medical crisis.
But this topic piqued my interest even as a teenager. I read herbal and nutrition books for fun, and I enjoyed reading about medical challenges and how people overcame them.
Although I've always been a stay-at-home mother and am most comfortable at home (and in my kitchen!), I’ve also always worked--sometimes more, sometimes less. I’ve worked with writing, editing, and interviewing for Shoshanim Magazine, and I’ve run a playgroup, babysitting adorable babies. I have, and still do, created and sold herbal products such as face cream, massage oil, herbal teas, deodorant cream, and iron tonics.
When my youngest child started school, I took an intense 10-month course at the NTA, Nutritional Therapy Association. I also have taken and continue to take herbal courses. I find that herbal knowledge is a beautiful, natural way of alleviating daily situations that pop up in my family.
This summer, I took down my babysitter's shingle, said goodbye to the delicious babies, and announced that I was diving into nutrition full time. Besides for continuing my education with further reading and extra herbal classes, I took on giving a hands-on nutrition class in a local girls’ high school. And I opened this website.
The interactive, one-on-one sessions I present on this site will be my main focus as I try to instill my passion for a wholesome lifestyle into your life as well.
I really love my new career, and I hope you will join me on this journey to vastly improve the way you feel, the way you look, and the way you nourish yourself and your family.
My Philosophy
Health is all the rage nowadays, and everyone has their opinions on what is a healthy diet. From a raw-foods diet to macrobiotics, from keto and Paleo to vegetarianism and veganism, from low-fat diets to carnivorous diets, even fruitarian diets… What in the world is the truth?
The truth is we can learn a little bit from everybody. Never put anyone down. If someone is generally mistaken, there is always at least a little bit of something good that is attracting them to that direction.
My natural inclination is to go back in time to how our ancestors lived and the diets that made them strong and healthy back then. It makes the most sense to me. There is no extremism or feeling like one is starving or greatly deprived. It is a very balanced and wholesome approach, where fats and brans are not stripped from their sources and where most foods are well cooked or fermented. Where humanely raised animals give their lives, in the pattern of life on this planet, to help sustain the human race. Where it is okay to indulge in moderate amounts of treats made with wholesome ingredients. Where spending time in the kitchen lovingly creating foods takes precedence over fast, ready-made, low quality products. Where eating together, slowly and enjoyably, is valued as crucial to our emotional wellness. Where we use our gifts from G-d in this beautiful world to enhance our lives and be able to function in the best possible way.
This is the traditional way of eating. Much of it is based on the findings of Dr. Weston Price, the head of the American Dental Association of his time who traveled all over the world determining which diets and lifestyles of which native people yielded healthy and flawless teeth, jawlines, and general health.
With the traditional diet in mind I searched for a course that agreed with that.
The NTA is very much aligned with Dr. Weston Price and traditional ways of eating, with added information based on the challenges that come up in these modern times.
Even though in general I prefer to extract the full nutritional and healing value from food itself, I've learned a lot from the NTA in terms of supplementing when necessary. When balance is regained, it’s always best to revert back to pure food as medicine.
Each person is unique. Certain foundations of health taught by the NTA apply to everyone, but each person’s situation can call for different emphasis.
That’s where a nutritional therapy practitioner can be of wonderful service to guide a person.
I’d like to add one important point. It’s easy to fall into the trap of becoming obsessed with food and our health. Ultimately, we are not on this earth forever. It is important to be the most fit physically, emotionally and mentally we can be, but it’s not just what we eat, it’s the love we put into nurturing others, it’s the kindness we bring into this world, it's our lifestyle and actions that make an impact on our environment and the people all around us.
Being our best, healthiest selves will help you show love to this world. You will be able to be productive and strong enough to help others in need and transform the world to be a brighter place.
